“And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music” – Friedrich Nietzsche.
Don’t we all have days when we’ve burnt our toast in the morning, had a car splash extraordinary amount of sludge on our somewhat new boots, made a terrible mistake at work and had a happy bird do its business on your tired shoulders. Here’s how you probably deal with it.Take it all out on the first person you see or cry heaps before you start to feel better!
The latter I am pro for. Nothing that a good cry cannot solve. But the first, not so much! Here’s something we can do instead.Turn to music !
Take this five song journey with me to calm the chaos! You can later order a fat burger too.
1. Smile , the Charlie Chaplin song :
“You’ll find that life is still worthwhile, if you just smile”
Research proves that even forcing a smile can help you feel better. Feel how all your anxieties melt away as you listen to this wonderful tune from the 1930’s by the master himself. Nat king Cole’s voice and Lyrics by the songwriter duo John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons added in the 1950’s brings sunshine right back into your life.
Here’s a link to the wonderful song and the accompanying video is so fresh!
2. Que sera sera – Doris Day:
“Que sera sera, whatever will be will be”
So now that you have a quiet smile on your face and your heart is a little lifted, let the beautiful Doris Day remind you of the art of going with flow, of not worrying about things beyond our control, of enjoying the present and letting life happen to us.Just sit back and let the humble lyrics and the charming melody from the 1950’s take over!
Here’s Doris day being so positive in life that it’s infectious
3. What a wonderful World – Louis Armstrong :
“And I think to myself, what a wonderful world”
The blues have been brushed aside and this masterpiece by Louis Armstrong released in the 1960’s will echo the optimism and hope that you may start to feel now. We have a wonderful world, amazing people brimming with positivity around us. All we have to do is find ourselves our own pair of rose-tinted glasses!
Here’s Louis Armstrong filling your cup with hope and optimism
4. Dancing Queen – ABBA :
“And when you get the chance, You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen”
Dance Therapy? Why not! Since the 1970’s when the popular Swedish band ABBA released this number, millions have grooved to this catchy, bright and uplifting song. Go ahead be that girl, be seventeen again and lose yourself to the beats. It’s your turn and your time. Show them what you got!

Good choices, I enjoyed the Charlie Chaplin video clip 🙂

May I offer an alternative to #3? All respect to the great ‘Satchmo’ Armstrong, but his legacy lives on (as well as Doris Day’s) in “Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World” Israel Kamakawiwoʻole. The video is worth a watch, although it was put together posthumously (RIP Brother Iz).
